Questions & Straight Answers

What Asheville drivers ask before they call — and what we tell them.

Is there a mobile mechanic in Asheville, NC?

Yes — Asheville Mobile Mechanics comes to your vehicle anywhere in Asheville and Buncombe County, including West Asheville, Arden, Fletcher, Candler, Weaverville, Woodfin, Leicester, Fairview, Swannanoa, and Black Mountain. Call or text (828) 547-3268.

How does a mobile mechanic work?

You tell us what the vehicle is doing and where it's parked. We come to it — driveway, workplace lot, or apartment space — at a time you pick, diagnose it there, quote the repair free, and fix it on the spot in most cases. No tow, no shop drop-off, no ride-arranging.

What can you actually fix outside a shop?

Most of what strands people: batteries, alternators, starters, brakes, belts and hoses, cooling-system parts, sensors and ignition components, fluid services, and full diagnostics. What we can't do on-site is heavy internal work — engine rebuilds, transmission overhauls, and alignment racks. We tell you straight when a job needs a shop lift.

How much do you charge?

Every job is quoted individually and free, before any work starts. Repairs vary too much by vehicle, part, and situation for a published price list to be honest. You approve the number first — no work begins on a maybe.

Do you charge just to come out?

We'll tell you exactly what the visit involves when you call — always before we head your way, never as a surprise on the invoice. Diagnostic visits are quoted up front like everything else.

How soon can you get to me?

Most appointments land same-day or next-day, in a window you choose. If the car is somewhere it can't stay — a workplace lot with rules, a spot you can't leave it overnight — say so, and we'll tell you honestly how fast we can make it.

What are your hours?

Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern. Early lot visits before workdays and end-of-day windows are both normal bookings.

Can you handle a steep or gravel driveway?

That's Asheville — yes. We work steep drives, gravel lanes, and tight spots every week: wheels chocked, jack points planned. If your particular slope isn't safe for a given job, we'll say so and find the nearest level spot instead of pretending.

My car won't start — do I need a jump, a battery, or an alternator?

You can't tell from the driver's seat, and guessing is how people buy batteries they didn't need. We test the battery, charging system, starter, and connections where the car sits and fix the one that actually failed.

Can you fix my car at my workplace while I'm on shift?

Yes — it's one of our most popular bookings. Describe the car and where it's parked, approve the quote by phone or text, and walk out after work to a running vehicle.

Do you work on cars at UNC Asheville?

Regularly — campus-area lots and the student housing off Merrimon and Broadway. For a student far from home, we're glad to call a parent and walk through the diagnosis and the quote before anything is decided.

Why do brakes and batteries wear out faster in Asheville?

Mountains. Every drive ends in a descent that turns speed into brake heat, and elevation cold snaps plus short hill climbs age batteries early. It's the most local fact about car ownership here, and it's half of what we fix.

What vehicles do you work on?

Cars, SUVs, minivans, and light trucks — domestic and import, roughly anything a family or small business drives. Heavy diesel rigs and motorcycles aren't our lane; ask and we'll point you somewhere honest.

Do you use new parts, and is the work guaranteed?

We use quality new or reputable remanufactured parts appropriate to the job, and we stand behind the workmanship. Part warranties are passed to you, and if something we touched isn't right, call us and we'll make it right.

Can I just get a diagnosis and do the repair myself?

Sure. Some customers want a professional diagnosis and a parts list, then turn their own wrenches. You pay for the diagnostic visit, you get a straight answer, no hard feelings.

Do you do pre-purchase inspections at dealerships?

Yes — we meet you at any dealer lot or private sale around the Asheville area and go through the car before you commit. Sellers who refuse an independent inspection are telling you something.

Will a check engine light fail my North Carolina inspection?

In Buncombe County, yes — an illuminated check engine light fails the annual inspection. If your registration renewal is coming due, that light has a deadline; we find the cause and fix it where the car sits.

What areas do you serve?

Asheville and all of Buncombe County — West Asheville, Woodfin, Weaverville, Leicester, Candler, Enka, Arden, Fletcher, Fairview, Swannanoa, Black Mountain, and the rural routes between. On the edge of the map? Call anyway; the route flexes.

How do I get started?

Call or text (828) 547-3268 with what the vehicle is doing and where it's sitting, or send the quote form. You'll get a free quote and a scheduled window that fits your day.
